Rooting for Rhino

Rooting for Rhino is a non-profit rhino conservation organisation which was established in 2012. Our mission is to end the rhino slaughter to ensure their survival for future generations.

Our small dedicated team hold professional careers and volunteer their spare time to fight the war on rhino and help save them from extinction. We facilitate charitable projects globally and have teams in South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Whilst rhino poaching continues to escalate, we urge you to join us in helping to protect them. At the current poaching rate, all rhino are likely to be extinct in the wild very soon.

Starseed Rock for Rhinos

In May 2012 UK rockers Starseed shocked everyone by announcing an indefinite hiatus. It was out of the blue and unexpected – especially since the five-piece rock group’s stock was skyrocketing at the time.

They’d twice performed at Download, gained huge support from Kerrang! and Rock Sound over their sophomore album, 'Peace Machine', and even caught the ear and interest of Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fame. A US tour was in the pipeline and major label interest mooted...yet, those pesky things called ‘life’ and ‘family responsibilities’ came knocking at their door and the band of brothers heeded the call, deciding to stand down together.

“They are a really big, gutsy kinda rock ‘n’ roll band.  Huge soaring vocals, big chunky guitars. Sounds like a punch in the face.” Kerrang! Radio

Now, on the eve of the tenth anniversary of their debut album, 'All the Things They Can’t Take Away...,' the melodic UK rockers have decided to dust off the instruments, revisit the record that kick-started the wild ride and take to the stage one more time. On 18 November 2015, Starseed will reunite for an exclusive show at The Borderline in London. Joining them will be special guests Feral Sun and Delayed.

But this won’t just be a stroll down memory lane, because there’s a good cause behind it too. The band has announced that it will be using the show to raise money for the Rooting for Rhino charity, with £5 of every ticket sold going to the charity. In, addition, as part of the celebrations, the single “Walls of Silence”, from All the Things They Can’t Take Away..., will be released to commemorate the event.

“Sounding truly gargantuan. This machine is unstoppable.” Big Cheese

With the reunion booked and excitement flowing, the obvious question is: will it spark a full-time comeback for Starseed? “Our hiatus was rather abrupt and sudden – it was sad how we never got the opportunity to give our fans the proper goodbye show they deserved. When we noticed that All the Things was about to turn ten, all of the emotions and memories came flooding back. We remembered all the things that went into making this album – the love, the anger, the heartache, and the music. We couldn’t ignore it; we knew we had to do something special to honour it,” says drummer Andy Spence.“Whether this show will lead to something more down the line, we’re not going to say yes or no right now. Let’s wait and see what happens and take it from there.”

“This show is extremely special to us and we are truly honoured to have some of South Africa’s best musicians raising awareness and funds to save our beautiful rhino from extinction, says Hazel Hoole, Starseed ex’s band manager and UK Director of Rooting for Rhino. Starseed, Feral Sun & Delayed are very accomplished rock bands who all have members of South African origin. With their powerful voices on stage and for the rhino, we hope that their strong message about the importance of saving this species is heard loud and clear around the world. Thanks to you all for joining our plight.”

We’d love to see you all at this show.
